A parliamentary candidate has decided not to stand in the upcoming general elections in order to give his opponent a better chance of winning in the Oldham West and Royton constituency.
In a significant move aimed at strengthening the opposition’s chances in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Dr Waqas Farid has announced his decision to step aside in favour of Zaffar Iqbal.
This strategic decision will increase the likelihood of Mr Iqbal defeating the incumbent Labour MP Jim Mcmahon.
Iqbal who has garnered substantial support and recognition for his work in humanitarian law, welcomed the gesture, highlighting the importance of unity in achieving common goals.
This move is seen as a strategic effort to avoid splitting the vote, which could have benefitted the incumbent Labour Party.

Dr Farid said: “I was planning to stand as an Independent alongside Zaffar Iqbal in the constituency of Oldham West and Royton, but we have to look at the greater objective and we looked at what was right for our community and what would benefit the community by coming together to oust Jim Mcmahon who is the Labour MP.
“The best way was for us to come together and combine our vote banks.
“I felt like I could do a good job, but I appreciate that brother Zaffar has more support than me and has a better chance of winning therefore I am putting my weight behind him.
“Labour has held this seat for over 50 years presiding over the worst decline in this town. Clearly labour is not interested in the needs of the local people and care more for their party politics.
“This disparity was no more apparent than in their position on Gaza which was clearly at odds with the wants of the local population and the majority of people in the UK.”
Mr Iqbal added: “I thank the Doctor for his decision to support me in the forthcoming general elections.
“Our aim has always been to take out Jim due to his stance on Gaza and to defeat the Labour party. I must say the Doctor has won a lot of hearts and I want to extend my thanks and we will continue to work against the Labour party together.”
